Meltham Ladies

Age is just a number

That is nothing new

Meltham Moorland ladies

Know it to be true

We turn up each first Tuesday

To join our friends in chat

To listen to our speakers

Who talk of this and that

We craft and quiz and game

And work for charity

And all the while we do this

We still have time for tea!

Whilst age may be a feature

 of ladies just like us

There’s life yet in the oldies

I’ll tell you why - because

We still can play our netball

and  fool around and gaff

So come on Meltham ladies

Let’s all have a laugh!

Alternative ‘Jerusalem’

(to the tune of ‘Jerusalem’ and with many apologies to William Blake!!)

And did those feet in ancient times

Walk us towards the village hall

And Tuesday nights, the first of the month

We answered to the leader’s call

And did that countenance of hers

Look down upon our gathered souls

And was Jerusalem sung by us

Enshrining all our views and goals

Bring me my cakes and cups of tea

Bring me my crafts and knitted toys

Bring on our guests for all to see

Bring all the friendship and the joy

I will not cease from joining in

I’ll always try to lend a hand

Till we have helped communities

In England’s green and pleasant land!

             Rainbow

R is for RED, the nose of a clown

O is for ORANGE, the street lights in town

Y is for YELLOW, the tall daffodils

G is for GREEN, the far away hills

B is for BLUE, up where the birds fly

I  is for INDIGO, a summer night’s sky

V is for VIOLET and the flower named so

And this is the way to recall a rainbow

I’m Busy Isolating - A lockdown poem

(Sung to the tune of ‘I’m Busy Doing Nothing’)

I’m busy isolating

Happy the whole day through

Trying to find lots of things I can do

I’m clearing all my cupboards

Sorting out all my drawers

I’d like to be unhappy but –

I’m getting on with my chores!

La-la-la-la-la-la

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

La-la-la-la-la-la

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

I’m digging in my garden

Planting my Summer blooms

Clearing out the attic and

Spring cleaning all of my rooms

I’m busy isolating

Isn’t it just a crime

I should have done it all before –

I never did have the time!

La-la-la-la-la-la

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

La-la-la-la-la-la

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

I’m Zooming with the children

Face Timing all my friends

Learning to use apps

My kids recommend

I’m catching up on Facebook

Watching the news on stream

I’d like to think that all of it

Is only a passing dream!
